But I’m Alive, Really I Am!

Poor Laura Brooks. She’s sorry, she didn’t know. It wasn’t until overdue noticeshttps://i2.wp.com/www.batteredsheep.com/graphics/rip.jpg started coming, loans defaulted and her cards wouldn’t work that she finally found out she was dead. How rude, no one had the decency to let her know. The same with Leona Turner whose husband had died and while she was trying to show up for a doctor’s appointment the dumbfounded receptionist declared, ” Well, she’s standing here in front of me…”. Judy Rivers was even picked up by the police for trying to attempt a transaction while being dead.

Harry’s checks started bouncing he found out with very irate phones calls and he found he couldn’t access his account online. He has auto deposit so he’s baffled and goes to the bank to find out what’s up. He gets up to the teller, hands her his ID and asks if there’s a computer banking problem. She reassures him that there is no problem and he proceeds to tell here that he’s getting calls about bounced checks, so she checks on his account only to announce that the account has been closed. When he asks why it’s been closed she, with a straight face, tells him that the account owner is dead. DEAD????!!!!!

“But I’m standing here in front of you”

“the computer says that account is closed because the account holder is deceased. I’m sorry but I can’t share anymore information because the account holder is deceased, are you a relative?”

“I’m the account holder standing in front of you clearly not dead”

“Do you have some proof that you are not deceased?

“I’m standing here in front of you”

“the computer says you are deceased. We’ll need some proof that you are not”

Ain’t technology grand?

Last week we celebrated Easter, the day that Jesus rose from the dead in victory over death and the hope of Christians. But a funny thing happened on the way to the forum, Jesus ran into the same kind of problem. On resurrection morning Mary Magdalene saw Jesus at the tomb, and despite being told that He is alive by the angels and seeing Jesus she still didn’t get it until He told her. Later on the road to Emmaus He appeared to two and they all talked amazed that He didn’t know about the past days events and that Jesus was dead. It wouldn’t be until later that evening when He broke bread that the lights went on and they recognized Him. Then there was Thomas, who when the Good News was shared demanded proof and Jesus appeared later and Thomas was able to touch and feel the living Jesus and he believed. A man can be convicted on the testimony of two or three witnesses, Jesus would appear to more than 500 people before he ascended to Heaven.

The social security snafus show that as technology and information advanced to this day it’s still pretty lame. People, especially atheists, demand proof, demand verifiable documentation that Jesus is alive. Such a smoke screen. The Bible was written by witnesses at the time. These folks still wouldn’t recognize Him even if he stood in their presence. Their hearts are hard and determined to disbelieve. Is this where you are at? Are you still waiting for a sign, an undeath certificate? The time is coming, shortly when that proof will be here, but then it will be too late. Jesus died a cruel death on a cross for you, and offers a free gift, it costs you nothing, but then again it will cost you everything but it’s worth it. Take this free gift while you still have the opportunity, do it today.

I'm a musician and worship leader, intent on following wherever God leads and directs me, with His leading's in the Spirit and others bonking me on the head ( hopefully not much of the latter). My life experiences are in blue collar and white collar (engineering) employment, political office, lay ministries, national competition in track and cross country and most importantly marriage and raising a family. God has given me a unique set of skills and character to serve Him and a passion for doing it.
