I Believe, Let Me Roar That

crossI can’t believe the significant increase in traffic over a post I made almost two years ago. The sting and conviction must be increasing and in effect validate the post of the Watchman. The posting, “Roaring on the inside“, was intended to sound a concern with personnel changes with the Newsboys and maybe a little drifting into the Grand Delusion. That discussions that have developed always entered into two schools of thought. One supporting the concern over the possibly veiled acceptance of perverting the scripture or the other supporting such creative license to do what ever with the scripture. The latter always come up with straw man arguments to support the cause but lack scriptural base themselves. The detractors typically come up with, “God Roars”, “Jesus is the Lion of Judah”, “C.S. Lewis has Jesus as Aztlan the lion roaring”, ad nauseam .

Though no retraction ever came out of it I believe the conviction was there on the part of the music team. If my job was to call them out and ensure they remain true to their original call then I feel the job was done. Recently this song has come out, seemingly as a response and I can say, “thank you, Newsboys, well done.”. It’s a great song, I can lead it in worship, I can confess it before others, I can shout it from the mountaintop and more than anything, I can say AMEN to it. Enjoy….

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only One Foundation
We believe, We believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark, You help us see
There is only One Salvation
We believe, We believe
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again, we believe
So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, We believe!
We believe in God the Father!
We believe in Jesus Christ!
We believe in the Holy Spirit!
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s comin’ back again!
Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live love our God will see
We believe, We believe!
And the gates of hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the vail!
Now we know Your love will never fail!
We believe, We believe!
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s comin’ back,
He’s comin’ back again!
He’s comin’ back again!
We believe!

Citizens in a Foreign Land

Well, it’s here the Eleventh Hour. In the United States of America it seems a do or die time, a time where your single vote will form the basis for the future of the US and ultimately the world. What an awe-inspiring thought. Over the last four years it has seemed to be an ever-increasing prison state in the US and, according to some, we have the chance to change that, again, according to some.

chains

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

One candidate, in spite of lies and cover up, has been quite transparent as to where he is going. The other is less certain. He seems to throw out Red Herrings to acquiesce the masses that go by the name of christian. But an analysis of the candidates indicates the only choice is a vote for the lesser of two evils. It’s Closer Than You Think

rocket battery

More rockets come into Israel

As the Hamas fires more rockets into Israel with only one thought, kill or maim as many Jews as possible with random shots, my thoughts are drawn to Israel and where are we right now, Haaretz . We’re still caught up in our own little world while Israel remains the epicenter of time.

Here in the US we have two candidates who really can’t decide what the future holds. They touch on the party lines looking for the emotional votes, while ignoring what we know are the impossible topics. Both are banking that things continue to be worse for the rest of the world than for us so that our economy still “appears” better than the rest, full knowing that an ill wind will crash the whole thing. Even worse is that both candidates won’t give an unequivocal support for Israel, and that is dangerous. Is America headed for a cliff? Continue reading

I Refuse to………. SIT ON MY BUTT!

I REFUSE by Josh Willson

lyricsty.com

Sometimes I
I just want to close my eyes
And act like everyone’s all right
When no, they’re not

This world needs God
But it’s easier to just stand and watch
I could say a prayer and just move on
Like nothing’s wrong

But I refuse

Cause I don’t want to live like I don’t care
I don’t want to say another empty prayer
Oh I refuse to
Sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh I could choose
Not to move

But I refuse

I can hear the least of these
Crying out so desperately
And I know we are the hands and feet
Of You, O God

So if you say move
It’s time for me to follow through
And do what I was made to do
And show them who you are
[ Lyrics from: htp://www.lyricsty.com/josh-wilson-i-refuse-lyrics.html ]

Cause I don’t want to live like I don’t care
I don’t want to say another empty prayer
Oh I refuse to
Sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh I could choose
Not to move

But I refuse

To stand and watch
The weary and lost
Cry out for Him
I refuse
To turn my back
And try and act like all is well

I refuse

To stay unchanged
To wait another day
To doubt myself

I refuse
To make one more excuse

Cause I don’t want to live like I don’t care
I don’t want to say another empty prayer
Oh I refuse to
Sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh I could choose
Not to move

But I refuse

I refuse
I refuse

Yeah

So, what do you  think?
Sometimes it gets wearing, all this stuff going on all around. People have been told, yet they still keep going around the same treadmill of sin. You get pretty tired of it, let’em get what they deserve, they won’t listen. Or maybe you’re too busy, you tithe, you pay someone to do this stuff, but you’ll pray for them. Okay, yeah, that’s it, get on the prayer chain, maybe mumble something on one that interests you. Job done.

But then there are those who seriously haven’t heard, that only you are qualified to speak to them because God has been spending your entire life preparing you to do it. Are you still going to sit? Are you still going to let someone else do it even if you’re the one God has set apart for that very thing?

This song burned a hole deep down to the depths of my heart the first time I heard it. It continues to do so. Many of you visit my writings hoping for another Word, another admonition, another encouragement. Take this Word then, I believe from the Lord, GET OFF YOUR DUFFS AND GET OUT THERE! Wow, did I just say that? Really, I pray the conviction burns in you as it does in me and that you will fervently seek God  and what He would have you do. And when He tells you, and He definitely will, get right to it…

Remind Me Who I AM

reminder

I’m the one you love

In these times, when the world is falling apart around us, when sin runs rampant and overwhelming, sometimes it’s even overwhelming for those TRULY in Christ and the questions can start. Sometimes we need to pause and get refreshed and ministered to.

Remind Me Who I Am by Jason Gray

When I lose my way,
And I forget my name,
Remind me who I am.
In the mirror all I see
is who I don’t want to be,
Remind me who I am.

In the loneliest places
When I can’t remember what grace is.

Chorus:
Tell me once again
Who I am to you, who I am to you.
Tell me, lest I forget
Who I am to You, that I belong to You,
To You.

When my heart is like a stone
And I’m running far from home,
Remind me who I am.
When I can’t receive your love
Afraid I’ll never be enough,
Remind me who I am.
If I’m your beloved
Would you help me believe it.

Bridge:
I’m the one You love,
I’m the one You love,
That will be enough,
I’m the one you love.

God is calling His church back from what men have made it. He wants our complete and undivided attention. Testing, testing, hardship seem to come our way more and more now and you may feel alone and abandoned. Maybe in this testing you took a little walk to the left. God loves you. He cares for you and wants your best. He hasn’t abandoned you.

The world is in judgement and severe things are coming and have come. He is strengthening you and drawing you closer to Him, because only in Him can you survive. If you’re in a time of testing or if you’ve drifted a little, take heart, refresh yourself, know that you are loved. If you haven’t accepted Jesus the Christ as your salvation, your one true link, your only hope in the destruction coming, take this time, call to Him, make this the time that your future is secure, that no matter what comes, you will know who you are…

Lyrics: God’s Not Dead and not roaring like a lion

I posted, previously, my concerns over the song God’s not dead and the roaring like a lion part. It’s a great song without the roaring, and so, for the sake of the kids, I modified the lyrics to remove the Satan imagery and replaced it with an omnipresent God, which He is….

God’s Not Dead by the Newsboys (modified lyrics)

Let love explode And bring the dead to life A love so bold To see a revolution somehow
Let love explode And bring the dead to life A love so bold To bring a revolution somehow
Now I’m lost in your freedom And this world I’ll overcome

My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
He’s living He’s living He’s living on the inside

Let hope arise And make the darkness hide My faith is dead I need a resurrection somehow
Now.. Now I’m lost in your freedom Now.. And this world I’ll overcome

My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
He’s living He’s living He’s living on the inside
He’s living on the inside

Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival
Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival
Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival
Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival…

My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside, living on the outside…
He’s living He’s living He’s living on the inside…
He’s living on the outside

Using this arrangement I feel confident that we can enjoy the Newsboys and the catchy song without losing a beat..

Roaring on the Inside

(Updated author’s note: If you feel strongly about this then let them know by leaving a comment at the Newsboys)   See also I believe..

My wife and I have recently had discussion over her concern about the new Newsboys song God’s not Dead. She said they were saying “roaring like a lion” and we all know that there are only three such mentions in the Bible, the most familiar is “the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking who he can devour“, though all three give an evil deadly presence to the reference. (correction: Hosea 11:10 does mention God roaring like a lion, but not in this context. God roars to an unrepentant nation, who comes back humbly. For God to be continually roaring on the inside means an unrepentant heart, holding the form of religion and continuing in sin. That is what the emerging church of apostasy is, and maybe that is where the Newsboys are headed.)

Now we have this song:

God’s Not Dead

Let love explode And bring the dead to life A love so bold To see a revolution somehow
Let love explode And bring the dead to life A love so bold To bring a revolution somehow
Now I’m lost in your freedom And this world I’ll overcome
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion
He’s roaring He’s roaring He’s roaring like a lion Let hope arise And make the darkness hide My faith is dead I need a resurrection somehow
Now.. Now I’m lost in your freedom Now.. And this world I’ll overcome
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion
He’s roaring He’s roaring He’s roaring like a lion
He’s roaring He’s roaring
Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival
Let Heaven roar And fire fall Come shake the ground With the sound of revival…
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion
My God’s not dead He’s surely alive He’s living on the inside Roaring like a lion…
He’s roaring He’s roaring He’s roaring like a lion…
Roaring like a lion

Sounds kind of cool except that a roaring of a lion is all hot air. The roar is meant to threaten, intimidate, or paralyze the intended prey. I’m pretty uncomfortable with the notion that there are kids and adults making this confession with their mouths. God doesn’t walk around like a roaring lion, or live on the inside roaring like a lion. He isn’t full of hot air. God is compassionate, yet just. He is loving yet firm. He is all wise yet speaks to us in the simplest of terms. Jesus is the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega and you ask Him to come into your life as your helper, healer, Redeemer and it’s His Holy Spirit that’s on the inside.

The song is written by Daniel Bashta who’s website homepage leaves me concerned, why is the guy with the lion’s head standing on a pile of skulls forming America? I’m not old fashioned, but imagery full of skulls while claiming to be worship music is a stretch. As a Christian musician and worship leader it is always a point of discernment when songs fail to acknowledge Jesus, and this song clearly does. Who is “my god”? He could be anyone or anything, in particular, the devil himself without you even knowing it. Many walk around deceived and become deceived through little doors until they no longer know where they are. The emerging church is very much that, dishing out eye candy while stripping the power of the Holy Spirit from their words. Do you find yourself saying things to agree with everybody, do you really know the word of God anymore, or did you ever? Plug yourself into His word, seek His truth and cast away lies and deceit. We haven’t time to play around anymore. Don’t allow yourself to be part of the deception.

As for this song, it has a good place on the shelf or maybe out the back door….

Indifferent? a dirge…..

I wrote this little dirge in the mid 70′s in relationship with the song “I Wish We’d All Been Ready” from the “Thief in the Night” movies. Forty years later as I witness the state of this country, and the world I’m inclined to bring it back….

INDIFFERENCE
in the key of Am

Child stands in darkness
tries to find a glimpse of light
he just stands and softly shudders
in a land so full of fright

He wonders, just where it’s at
and, if it’s a single fact
that someone, watches over him
watches over him

Man walks indifferent
earthly pleasures are his goal
the voice of Jesus gently calling
without me you’ll lose your soul

He just says, get out of here and
I don’t, even want you near and
why don’t you go bother someone, who needs you
who needs you

The time has gone so quickly now
the multitude begins to form
the crowd begins to tremble
see a people so forlorn

The time, finally, has come about
it breaks, with a tremendous shout
as God’s armies have come to rout
the evil one,
they’ve just begun

Man, stands so different
his will , no longer his own
see the books, quickly opened
see the Lord upon His throne

(the Lord says)
Look at you standing there
You didn’t even care
Now you, have to go down where
I send you…….
I’ve sent you…………

Slow Fade, modified lyrics

I love this song by Casting Crowns and when I’d sing it with the radio I thought it was slow pain not slow fade. The former is very, very real in the process because in each step of the fade you have to cut yourself from your relationship with God, turn your back on Jesus and those you love. It is pain when you put aside that real love to dabble, and the dabble gets deeper and deeper until the house comes crashing down, and grace seems unreachable, and you live with the specter of alienating yourself from those you love, including Jesus. The pain is immense and if played too far, as it is written in Hebrews 6, there is no return because the pain is insurmountable.

So I modified the song for our youth, to make the point ( sorry that the chart doesn’t post correctly).

Slow Fade

    V1
    Am C
Be careful little eyes what you see

    G Dm
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings

    Am C
Be careful little feet where you go

    G Dm
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

    CH1 Am G
It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away

    Am F
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray

    Am G/B
    And thoughts invade choices made

    C F
A price is paid when you give yourself away

Dm G ( continue to bridge on 2nd)
People never crumble in a day

    Am C
    It’s a slow fade

    G F
    It’s a slow fade
    V2
    Am C
Be careful little ears what you hear

    G Dm
When flattery leads to compromise the end is always near

    Am C
Be careful little lips what you say

    G Dm
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray

    Bridge
    G dm F
The journey from your mind to your hands

    Am7 G
    Is shorter than you’re thinking

    Dm F
be careful if you think you stand
    C F (Am C G Dm (repeat buildup until))
    You just might be sinking

    CH2
    Am G
And it’s a slow pain when you give yourself away

    Dm F
It’s a slow pain when the Word and world are mixed for play

    Am G/B
    And thoughts invade choices made

    C F
A price will be paid when you give yourself away

    Dm G
People never crumble in a day

    Dm G
Families never crumble in a day

    Dm F
Christians never crumble in a day
    Am G
    It’s a slow fade/ ( pain )
    Am G
    It’s a slow fade/ ( pain )
    Am G
    It’s a slow fade/ ( pain )
    Am
    It’s a slow pain….

    (Optional)
    Am G/B C F
Oh be careful little eyes what you see, Oh be careful little eyes what you see
    Dm F G C
For the Father up above is looking down in love, Oh be careful little eyes what you see
