Citizens in a Foreign Land

Well, it’s here the Eleventh Hour. In the United States of America it seems a do or die time, a time where your single vote will form the basis for the future of the US and ultimately the world. What an awe-inspiring thought. Over the last four years it has seemed to be an ever-increasing prison state in the US and, according to some, we have the chance to change that, again, according to some.

chains

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

One candidate, in spite of lies and cover up, has been quite transparent as to where he is going. The other is less certain. He seems to throw out Red Herrings to acquiesce the masses that go by the name of christian. But an analysis of the candidates indicates the only choice is a vote for the lesser of two evils.

Much has been made about praying for America. Many people, citing 2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles 7:14

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

“14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

urge you to pray and repent and then God will heal this land and things will be hunky dory again. Vote for Romney and start the healing. Hate to break it to you, but many of those christians are clueless, lacking any scope or responsibility for the times we live in. These people, and many more, ignore that, ultimately, God has a plan and at some point will not turn from it. But these people ignore the Word in 2 Kings 23

2 Kings 23:25-27

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

“25 Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.

26 Nevertheless, the Lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to provoke him to anger. 27 So the Lord said, “I will remove Judah also from my presence as I removed Israel, and I will reject Jerusalem, the city I chose, and this temple, about which I said, ‘There shall my Name be.’[a]””

Many feel that America can’t fall. It wouldn’t be right if America fell. What would the world do without America? Where would we go? What would we do?It depends on where your citizenship is.

There comes a point in time where God’s patience is done, and action takes place, Genesis 6:5-7 , Genesis 18:22-32, Mark 13 :1-2 and the only hope is in true commitment and service to the Christ Jesus. When you enter into Jesus’ Kingdom you are granted citizenship. So our citizenship isn’t here, Philippians 3:17-21

Philippians 3:17-21

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

“17 Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”

So, if we are citizens in Christ, in America we are sojourners in a foreign land. But as we are commissioned, we are to spread His Word and draw as many into His Kingdom as we can while there is yet time. We can’t be sleeping at the wheel, dreaming of the things we could have or think we should have. Time is short, and the time of reprieve is running out. When you pray, pray for revival, restoration is God’s choice. When you pray, pray for the lost, not for what you’ve lost. When you pray, pray for people, not about your discomfort.

If you are in Christ Jesus, you are citizens of His kingdom, not the US. Whether or not the country falls, whether or not your hauled off to china, Russia, Mexico don’t despair, these things are fleeting. God’s kingdom is forever. If you find yourself worrying about what if, where and how, seek Christ. Repent of your obsession with America, and throw yourself at  His feet, accept your citizenship and don’t throw it away. If you’ve never accepted Christ, if you’ve never seen His grace, now is the time and for many the only time you have to accept His gift of citizenship that no one else can strip away from you unless you let them. Become a citizen of Christ today, and don’t worry about someone stripping America away.

I'm a musician and worship leader, intent on following wherever God leads and directs me, with His leading's in the Spirit and others bonking me on the head ( hopefully not much of the latter). My life experiences are in blue collar and white collar (engineering) employment, political office, lay ministries, national competition in track and cross country and most importantly marriage and raising a family. God has given me a unique set of skills and character to serve Him and a passion for doing it.

  1. This is spot on and much needed. He gave me a dream this morning about getting on the train and another about moving into a new place. This world is not our home. Thank you for posting this. God bless you in Jesus Christ!

  2. 2 Timothy 2:3-4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

  3. Dan, so true! Our citizenship is in heaven, so how can we ever feel totally at home here? Come, Lord Jesus!
Thank you also for including the video, “Where I Belong” – just beautiful!
    Blessings,
    Bonnie

  4. Dan good word. Please read what Father gave me a couple days ago. I don’t have many emails, so I posted it on the blog. No comment necessary. I just hope it encourages folks. Praise King Yahshua for all He has done! Amen!
